How long should it take to get a new job?

Tuesday, May 19, 2015 5:20 am

When should you get your CV updated?  When should you start sending it out?  What if I intend to get employment in a different city?

There is nothing like good planning.  I understand that “the best laid plans of mice and men”… But at what point do we start planning to change jobs?  How long does it take to get a job?  There are stories of people walking straight from one job into another.  But what has gone on in the background prior to this?

It’s probably not great to go on stories we hear about how others get new employment, as in almost every case, the circumstances are vastly different.

We have put together a list of the tasks that should occur when changing jobs and a suggested timeline to work toward.  These times are based on how long it takes the average person to gain employment (according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics).

See the checklist here http://www.transciv.com.au/assets/docs/Changing_Jobs_Checklist2.pdf
