Australian employment growth has been solid over the past year, running at 2% in the year to August. However, despite being significantly higher than the 0.8% pace recorded in the previous 12 months, almost all of the jobs created have come from lower paying sectors.
That’s the view of Diana Mousina, economist at CBA, who points out that such a scenario – higher employment growth in lower wage sectors – is generally a negative for household spending power.
Job gains were concentrated in the service sectors, said Mousina in a research note released...

When an employer decides to hire new staff, they enter into a buyer/seller negotiation. Employers are the buyer and they are looking to purchase a capability. That capability is in the form of a new staff member. During the recruitment phase the new staff member may be called a Candidate, Job Seeker or Job Applicant.
To enable the employer to make the right purchase, they first must know the specifics of what they want to buy. The detail of these specifics is generally found in the job vacancy requirement (ie, what skills...

What is Cultural Fit??
Cultural fit? What the heck does that even mean? Well in employment terms, it simply means hiring someone that fits within a company's culture (team dynamics). More people lose jobs because of a lack of cultural fit than because of a lack of qualifications.
Cultural fit is such a huge issue these days for companies as there is a massive financial cost if they employ somone and then soon find out they don't fit the team. These costs come from,
- Loss of operational productivity – the average is 3 months to...

Customer Feedback
Being terminated from your job for reasons outside your control is not at all an easy process. I was medically discharged from the Australian Army in Nov 2013 and the six months leading up to this event was the most difficult time of my career to date. During this process I was very fortunate to come across Trans-Civ. Trans-Civ not only offered me resume writing and interview coaching but they did so with an understanding that can only be acquired from someone who has been through a similar situation and understands the defence medical discharge process. Within a few weeks of contacting Trans-Civ I had received a state-of-the-art resume in addition to advice on how to tailor it to my job applications. Shortly after, Ross Perriman from Trans-Civ travelled to Darwin from Canberra in order to sit down with me, in person, and explain how to apply for jobs and how to handle an interview situation. Ross understood my situation and the difficulties I was going through, he knew exactly what advice to give to me and how to tailor it to my situation. By following Ross’ advice I achieved my goal of utilising my engineering skills and did so in a very competitive market within a record timeframe.
More recently, my medical condition once again restricted me at work and I found myself looking for another new job. I contacted Trans-Civ and they updated my resume, free of charge. I contacted Ross and he offered me career coaching to ensure that the next job I secured did not affect my medical condition. When I applied for 3 jobs and secured 3 interviews using the skills Ross taught me, he conducted further interview coaching to refresh my skills before attending the interviews. I have recently been offered multiple jobs with multiple multi-national engineering firms, each one better than the last. I can easily say I would not have been able to secure these offers without the advice provided by Trans-Civ. When I became overwhelmed and couldn’t decide which job to take, I called Ross and he offered me further career coaching to ensure I made the right decision.
Leaving the army due to medical conditions is always going to be a hard process, although Trans-Civ turned this negative experience into the best thing that has happened for my career to date. I recommend Trans-Civ to any Defence member seeking a career transition, particularly if medically discharging; they are not only attuned to the defence medical discharge process but are also well and truly up to date on industry expectations relating to resumes and interview systems.
Kind Regards, Rachael 24 Sep 2015
