Serco is seeking Detainee Service Officers (DSOs) to join our Emergency Response Team (ERT) for 12-month fixed-term contracts based at our Christmas Island facility.  This is a unique and challenging opportunity not to be missed with numerous benefits!

ERT members receive specialist training which equip them with the skills to effectively manage high-risk/high-needs detainees through early identification and prevention. ERT members are also trained to apply approved control and restraint methods and conduct specialist security and tactical tasks.

This role is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of detainees from diverse backgrounds in whilst their Immigration pathway is being determined.  Key accountabilities include maintaining the good order and security of the Centre, emergency response and incident management. 

To be suitable for this role you will have solid experience contributing to case management, public safety and security. You will possess a high level of physical fitness and be able to operate for extended periods with ERT and personal protective equipment. You will possess strong communication skills and sound numerical abilities with a high level of written communication and comprehension. Experience working with people from diverse religious and/or cultural backgrounds will be highly regarded.

The Centre is operational at all times, you will be required to work to a 24/7 roster.

Selected applicants will be required to attend an assessment centre and undergo psychometric, language, literacy and numeracy testing. Applicants must also successfully meet the requirements of an Australian Federal Police clearance and ERT fitness-based medical assessment.
