TECHNICAL WRITER

BAE Systems is Australia's most versatile Defence and Security Company. The Maritime Support Services business provides comprehensive through-life-support services for naval and marine ships and systems with sites in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

As a Technical Writer, you be responsible for developing technical documentation for specific maintenance requirements in accordance with approved standards, work instructions and project procedures, to achieve high quality products, schedule and cost goals.

In more specific terms, you will:
• Ensure materials standards are current and accurate, utilising established defence and associated systems
• Ensure that the product meets all requirements including safety and regulatory requirements
• Undertake day-to-day technical writing activities with occasional immediate supervision, including liaison with customers and suppliers as appropriate. Non-routine activities may require direct support and guidance
• Make technical writing decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
• Timely completion of allocated tasks; and advise line supervisor of tasks and elements that may have a negative impact on production delivery
• Assist in the development of project infrastructure such as tools deployment, metrics collection and process development
• Actively participate in Zero Harm Safety program, 5S office audits and Take 5 safety programmes, and promote a clean desk policy and ITAR security
• Actively conduct Ship Checks as part of task scoping


 As an ideal applicant, you will come equipped with:
• Previous experience as a Technical Writer coupled with experience in a production/technical environment
• Diploma, formal trade or technical certificate in engineering and /or equivalent
• Excellent command of oral and written English, with the ability to influence at all levels
• Strong time management skills coupled with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
• Previous experience within the maritime industry will be highly regarded
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance of Baseline and be cleared for International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR)
