How to approach job seeking in 2015 - Step 1

Tuesday, January 20, 2015 2:45 am

It’s no secret that the Australian job market is getting tougher and tougher.  There are many statistics and graphs available to indicate hiring trends, job vacancies and job seeker numbers.  But what does this all mean for you?

Tough times call for tough measures.  Or in this case, changed job market conditions call for changed application processes.  Gone are the days of using your CV/Résumé to apply for multiple jobs.  Another out-dated method is to use a general CV, but have a Cover Letter targeted to the specific job.  This is out-dated due to many recruiters now discarding the Cover Letter because too many of them are written with general clichés and have no relevant tangible substance to the job being applied for.  Many people still use this method and are subject to a significant amount of job-search frustration as a result.

Because there are so many people applying for jobs, employers can afford to be brutally selective in the first culling process (your written application).  In real terms, it is too costly to employ someone to sift through all job applications (front to back) to determine who will be interviewed.  So this process is streamlined to only scanning the front page of your application to determine if you will be interviewed or not.  Is your front page written so the reader will easily determine that you have what they are scanning for?  This is Step 1.

If you don’t know what type of job to target, then you’re not ready to tackle Step 1 yet.  Call us on 1300 366 104 or email info@transciv.com.au to get assistance in this area.
