Being ex-Defence members, we understand that a long term Defence career provides exceptional rewards with solid job security. Only when you leave Defence do you fully appreciate the reality of this.
Our understanding came from each of us changing jobs in the first few years after our military service (trying to find where we were best suited in the civilian market place and yet still get that same level of job satisfaction, while keeping an open mind about how to apply learnt military skills to a new field). Prior to Trans-Civ, we helped a group of ex-Defence people with an IT background to find new jobs after our Defence contract (rollout of the Defence Restricted Network) ended. Putting our heads together, we used this as the basis to develop a company specifically to help Defence people transition into a civilian career.
The concept of Trans-Civ (Transition to Civilian) was born in 2004 from three ex-Defence people who understood the changes required in both the method and marketing of someone with a Defence background to anyone outside Defence circles. We wanted to give something back to Defence, in thanks to the great career it gave us, not where it could be lost in bureaucracy, but where it will be recognised as true value - to its members. All our staff have a strong affiliation with Defence, if not ex-Defence, partners of Defence members. We also have people who have gone through the convoluted medical discharge process and can add tremendous value, empathy and assistance in this area.
The more people we helped, the more passionate we became about how many people needed our help. Many years of learning what employers wanted in job applications and in the skills they we after, have helped shape our services, which are now highly sought after.
We know how many Defence skills can apply to Project Management, we know the every-day things that demonstrate discipline, customer service and OHS in the workplace. We know how to tell a military story in plain language.
While we have a strong reputation in supplying people to the wider Defence industry (private sector), we have evolved this to provide an unbeaten service to the Defence Public Service, and to the other Government jobs.
Without immediately realising it, our services are also perfectly transferable to help Defence partners. This was made very evident when we employed Defence partners as part of the Trans-Civ Team. Now exposed to the real issues, first hand, our success rate has been far greater than we could have imagined. We know the hardest things associated with moving to a new location where there is no support, leaving good friends behind, not knowing where to get a decent coffee/mechanic/doctor, etc, let alone start applying for jobs.
